The Town of Paradise today provided an update on playground openings. Effective July 2, 2020, the following playgrounds are open for public use:
- Paradise Park
- Peter Barry Duff Memorial Park
- Camelot Crescent
- Horncastle Crescent
- Joshua Street
- Lanark Crescent
- Lombardy Place
- Milton Road
- Reardon Avenue
The playgrounds at Paradise Park and Peter Barry Duff Memorial Park are cleaned twice daily and staff are on site to monitor the facilities. The washrooms facilities at both of these parks are also open for public use and being cleaned according to public health guidelines. All other playgrounds will be cleaned and monitored throughout the summer, however, these areas will not be cleaned twice daily. Residents using playground areas are reminded to practice proper hand hygiene, to bring hand sanitizer, and to ensure physical distancing is practiced.
“I’m pleased to announce that over the next two weeks, we will be opening all other playgrounds in Town. We understand that our residents want play areas open during the summer, particularly as we continue to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, and staff worked to explore all options to be able to do that,” said Mayor Bobbett.
There are 34 playgrounds throughout the Town and staff are working to prepare all facilities for public use, including mowing the grass. As playgrounds were not permitted to open under previous COVID-19 Alert Levels, staff focused to prepare facilities and amenities that could open at each level, deferring other work such as lawn mowing. Weather permitting, playground preparation will be the focus for staff for the coming days. The Town will provide regular updates as the playgrounds are opened.
The playground located outside the Rotary Paradise Youth and Community Centre is closed for public use as it being used by the Summer Day Camp program. It will be cleaned and monitored as part of the Camp program.
In addition to playgrounds, the following outdoor recreational areas are open for public use in Town:
- Splash Pad, Paradise Park
- Beach Volleyball Court, Joshua Street
- Basketball Court and Ball Hockey area, Lombardy Place
- Basketball Court, Ball Hockey area, and Skate Park, Camelot Crescent
- Basketball Court and Ball Hockey area, Reardon Avenue
Those using Town amenities and recreation areas are reminded to follow public health guidelines and posted signage at all times.
