Repairs have started at the St. Thomas Line / Topsail Road Lift Station and are expected to be completed in approximately four weeks. At times, there may be traffic interruptions as equipment and trucks work in the area.
As of September 3, external pumper trucks were no longer required on the site full-time as external equipment keeping the lift station operational while repairs are ongoing. Pumper trucks may periodically be required depending on the nature of the work being completed. Steps are being taken to minimize the noise from the external equipment.
The total costs will not be known until all the repairs are completed but at this point it is estimated that the cost will be approximately $1.5 million. The Town remains in discussion with the Provincial Government to determine if the Town may be eligible for any funding assistance to help off-set the cost of the repairs.
With respect to the property at 3 St. Thomas Line (next to the lift station), Council is working through the process on the request to purchase the property and out of respect for the privacy of the resident, Council will not speak publicly to the specifics of the issue. Once the process is finalized, Council will speak publicly to the matter.
Council apologizes to all residents, especially those in the vicinity of the lift station, for the inconvenience of this situation and assures residents that the situation will be resolved as soon as possible. Sincere thanks are extended to all Town crews and staff who have been working tirelessly on the issue.
