Crews are working around the clock to deal with the record snowfall that has hit our Town and the region. It is reported that over 90 cms of snow fell in Paradise.
Overnight on Sunday all Town roads received at least one cut and today (Monday) street widening was underway.
On roads that do not have a curb and gutter, loaders have been able to push the snow back and many of those roads have been widened with crews continuing to make progress. Roads with sidewalks require the large snow blower for widening and that is ongoing.
Areas of Town with larger lots may have street widening completed sooner than other areas as the loaders are able to push the snow from the roads. Large snow blowers are working in densely populated areas and subdivisions, and the street widening will take longer in those areas. There are three large snow blowers dedicated to street widening in those areas.
At this time, the focus for street widening with the large snow blowers is on Topsail Road, St. Thomas Line and Karwood Drive then subdivisions in school areas. The regular street clearing operations are being adjusted given the record snow fall amounts.
The Town has 10 pieces of heavy equipment going 24 hours a day to complete the snow clearing. Smaller equipment such as sidewalk plows is also being used where it can.
The parking ban is in effect and under the state of emergency non-essential vehicles are not permitted on Town roads from midnight to 6 a.m.
The safety of crews and residents is paramount. Residents are asked to not push snow onto roads when clearing driveways and to move vehicles off the street when snow clearing equipment is in their area. We recommend residents to wear bright or reflective clothing when snow clearing or out walking to make it easier for crews to see them. We also ask kids not to play in snow banks or near roadways.
We thank residents for their patience, understanding and cooperation as we clean-up from this record snow fall!
