Work is ongoing at the St. Thomas Line / Topsail Road Lift Station. Following from the equipment malfunction on August 12, crews have been working to get the station operational, assess the matter and plan for appropriate repairs.
External equipment was brought to the site and it has been operational for the past several weeks. With this in place, external pumper trucks are no longer required on site as was the case when the issue first occurred. Pumper trucks may periodically be required at the lift station depending on the nature of the work being completed. The work at the lift station is now focused on the support work required to make the necessary repairs and return to normal operations. At times, there may be traffic interruptions as equipment and trucks work in the area.
With respect to the property at 3 St. Thomas Line (next to the lift station), the Town has been in regular contact with the resident since the issue started and will remain in constant contact until the matter is resolved. Out of respect for the privacy of the resident, Council will not speak publicly to the specifics of the issue, we are dealing directly with the resident. There is a request before Council to buy the property, and those types of requests must go through a process and that is underway. Once the process is finalized, Council will speak publicly to the matter.
