Advantage St. John’s Inc. is thrilled to announce that Jocelyn H. Perry has been appointed Chair of its Board of Directors. Ms. Perry is Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer of Fortis Inc. She has an extensive career in the utility business, having worked at Newfoundland Power for 13 years in a variety of capacities, including Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer, President, and Chief Executive Officer. She is a prior Director of Finance at Fortis, and previously served in other financial capacities in the private sector. She is a Fellow Chartered Professional Accountant (2018), completed a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) at Memorial University and received her Chartered Accountant Designation in the early 1990s.
Ms. Perry has considerable community and professional board experience in Newfoundland and Labrador. She currently serves on the board of Shorefast and is a past board member and Chair of the Health Care Foundation. She also serves on the Boards of UNS Energy and ITC Holdings, both Fortis Utilities. Advantage St. John’s Inc. is excited that Ms. Perry will bring her wealth of knowledge, expertise and passion for the St. John’s region to this position. She was officially appointed into the role on September 26th, 2024.
Advantage St. John’s is a provincially incorporated entity in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The non-profit corporation will be governed by a 9 person Board of Directors. With Ms. Perry at the Chair position, she adds to the Inaugural Board of Directors that include the Mayors of the City of St. John’s, the Town of Paradise and the Town of Conception Bay South; Mayors Danny Breen, Dan Bobbett and Darren Bent respectively.
Advantage St. John’s is led by Chief Executive Officer, Michelle Simms. Ms. Simms has more than a dozen years of exemplary leadership experience having most recently led the Genesis Centre as its CEO for eight years.
As the regional economic development agency servicing St. John’s, Paradise and Conception Bay South, Advantage St. John’s has a mandate to enhance business, investment and talent attraction opportunities in the province’s capital region. The entity will endeavour to create a stable foundation for wealth creation, self-sufficiency, and economic independence, ultimately benefiting the economy of the region and the Province.
