The Town of Paradise is pleased to participate in the Take Action on Radon initiative. Many Canadians are unaware of radon levels in their home and its associated health risks. Research shows it’s currently the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers but identifying dangerous levels can help protect your health.
Participants can drop off completed radon test kit from March 24 to March 28 to the Paradise Double Ice Complex between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
Registration for the Radon Testing Kits is closed for 2024.
100 free radon test kits from Take Action on Radon were given out in Paradise, in November, 2024 to those interested in testing levels in their home.
Radon is a human carcinogen that naturally occurs when uranium in soil and rock breaks down. The radioactive gas released from this process rises and can cause health risks when entering the home. Radon levels may vary in severity, which is why testing is so important.
Step-by-step instructions will be provided with your radon test kit. In order to get an accurate reading, kits must be placed for a minimum of 91 days and no later than December 13, 2024. After the 91 day time period, return your kit to the Town Hall for shipment. Once analyzed by Take Action on Radon, a detailed report will be emailed or mailed to you outlining the radon levels and suggested actions.
Take Action on Radon is a national initiative, funded by Health Canada, to bring together radon stakeholders and raise awareness on radon across Canada. For more information on this initiative, visit www.takeactiononradon.ca.
