The Town of Paradise advises that the State of Emergency has ended for the area of Town serviced by Lift Station 10. The system by-pass is operational at the site and the situation is stable. By the end of day today (November 22), no pumper trucks will be at the site and the intersection at Topsail Road and St. Thomas Line will be open to traffic.
“Ending the State of Emergency is great news for all involved as it has been a trying time for our residents dealing with the noise and inconveniences, and for our crews working on the problem,” said Mayor Dan Bobbett. “With the pumper trucks no longer needed on site, residents in the area will notice a significant reduction in the noise levels. We understand it was a frustrating time for our residents and we offer our sincere thanks for their patience, understanding, and cooperation these past weeks.”
On Friday, November 1, 2024, during the regular daily inspection, crews noticed the pumps were not working properly at Lift Station 10. To secure the required external resources needed to address the capacity at the facility, on November 4, 2024, the Town declared a State of Emergency for the portion of Town serviced by Lift Station 10. A pump was shipped in from out of province as the type and size needed could not be secured provincially. After several weather delays, the pump arrived onsite November 17, and since then crews have been working to install a system bypass and ensure operational stability.
“I extend sincere thanks to our crews and the external service providers who have been working continuously on the Lift Station 10 situation. Your dedication and commitment to keeping the essential service operational for our residents is certainly appreciated,” said Mayor Bobbett.
Crews will continue to monitor Lift Station 10. With the bypass operational and the system stable, crews are now working on repairs to the facility.
Lift Station 10, located on the corner of Topsail Road and St. Thomas Line, handles the largest volume of wastewater in Paradise. The age, capacity, and needed upgrades to Lift Station 10 prompted the Town to invest in a new facility. Construction of the new $24 million lift station started in January 2023, and it is expected to be operational in Winter 2025. To date, this project remains on track and within approved budgets.
