The Town of Paradise is pleased to provide two NHL-sized hockey rinks for recreational activities. Some of these activities include shinny. We ask that users keep these guidelines and rules top of mind while using our facilities. When necessary, staff will be on the ice to help organize teams and supervise the program. Participants are asked to follow and respect the ages specified for the shinny sessions (ie Adult 18+, Senior 50+ and Senior 60+). Individuals displaying unacceptable behaviour or who choose not to adhere to the following rules will be asked to leave.
If you have any questions, please reach out to our Department of Recreation and Community Services at 709.782.6290.

- All shots must be taken at the net and not on the sides of the rink.
- No contact. That’s the golden rule of senior shinny hockey. Safety is paramount, and this rule ensures that players of all skill levels can participate without fear.
- This includes the following violations:No Dangerous Play – body checking, slashing, tripping, diving, flopping, careless use of hockey stick, etc.
- No Fighting
- No Abusive and/or Obscene Language or Behaviour
Goalie Crease / Blue Paint Guideline
The primary objective of this guideline is for goalie protection versus goal suppression. If the goalie is attempting to trap the puck with either his trapper or blocker on the ice regardless of ice colour, the players must consider it a dead puck.
- Pucks that the goalie is NOT;
- trying to trap
- lodged in his equipment
- between the ice & pads
- under the goalie
- between his legs on the ice is a live puck available for play as long as the goalie is not going to be injured while the player is trying to score
- Blue ice – all players should avoid skating through the goalie crease to avoid collision with the goalie.
