An essential piece to the #Paradise50 Anniversary Celebrations is the Senior Storytelling Project – an initiative where residents shared their memories with us. Stories about their upbringing in Paradise, what events are forever solidified in their memories, and what makes them proud to be members of our thriving Town. Launched on National Seniors Day on Oct 1, 2021, the Senior Storytelling videos capture our Town's rich history for generations to come.
Arch Janes
Interviewed by former Councillor Sterling Willis, our first Storyteller is a well-known and life-long Paradise resident, Arch Janes. Born here in 1930, Arch has had a front-row seat to the development, growth, and changes that have happened here over the decades. In the video "Growing Up in Paradise," Arch recounts the Paradise of his childhood, a community that was much different than the Paradise we know today.
Michael Laurie
Interviewed by Lloyd Hussey, in this video, Michael recalls his life in Paradise as a young boy during the war years.
Nelson Murphy
Our Town is one of the fastest-growing municipalities across the country, but long-time resident Nelson Murphy remembers Paradise when it was much smaller. In this video, Curtis Knee talks to Nelson about his memories of times past.
Nick Quilty
Today, getting to St. John's from Paradise is a short drive, with many of our residents travelling daily for work, shopping, and other activities. But there was a time when a trip to St. John's was quite the excursion and Lloyd Hussy interviews Nick Quilty about those days of long ago.
Norita Tucker
We all think fondly of our youth when playing with friends, enjoying the outdoors, and just having fun were our main concerns. Interviewed by Pat Burton, Norita Tucker remembers the Paradise of her youth and shares her memories of growing up here.
